grandma’s favorite summer desserts

Summer is filled with warmth, sunshine, and the sweet aroma of freshly baked desserts wafting through the air.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite parts of summer is indulging in delicious homemade treats that bring back memories of simpler times.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and explore some of grandma’s favorite summer desserts passed down through generations. Ready?

grandma’s classic apple pie

No summer dessert list would be complete without grandma’s classic apple pie.

Although I make my apple pie with a crumb topping, grandma’s homemade 2-crust version shows a skill I do not possess.

This pie is made with a flaky, buttery crust and filled with sweet, cinnamon-spiced apples. It’s a timeless dessert and is a true crowd-pleaser.

Enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or cold straight from the fridge, without a doubt, grandma’s apple pie is always a good choice.

lemon bars

When life gives you lemons, make grandma’s lemon bars! In our family, it’s my sister who is the queen of the lemon bars. Our reunions are not complete without them.

Tangy and oh-so-satisfying, these zesty treats are the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.

Also, with the buttery shortbread crust and a luscious lemon filling, grandma’s lemon bars are sure to brighten up any gathering.

berry cobbler

Fresh berries are a staple of summer. Grandma knew just how to turn berries into a mouthwatering dessert with her famous berry cobbler.

Made with juicy strawberries or tart raspberries, this dessert topped with a golden-brown biscuit crust is a summertime treat.

homemade ice cream

No store-bought ice cream can compare to grandma’s homemade version.

Whether she churned it by hand or used a trusty ice cream maker, grandma’s ice cream was always a labor of love.

From classic vanilla and chocolate to adventurous flavors like peach or mint chip, her creamy creations were worth waiting for.

peach crisp

Ripe, juicy peaches are the hallmark of summer.

Grandma’s peach crisp is a delicious way to showcase this seasonal fruit.

Topped with a crunchy oat and brown sugar crumble, this warm and comforting dessert is best enjoyed fresh out of the oven.

Also, try it with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of that homemade vanilla ice cream.
