I absolutely loved a well-kept, organized home. You too?! Unfortunately, many of us do not live in the organized homes of our dreams including me! Let me show you how I organize my house.
I do try my best, however, to be the closest thing to KonMari as possible:
- Discarding by category comes first. …
- Break a category into subcategories as necessary. …
- Keep only those things that spark joy. …
- After you’ve finished discarding, organize your space thoroughly and completely. …
- Do it all in one go.

I don’t think many of us are as married to organizing as Marie is, but I do think that most of us would like to be a little more organized than we currently are.
I like to use as many bins, baskets and containers as possible when organizing my house. This way everything has a place to be.
For example, my laundry room cupboards have pretty cloth bins that store my light bulbs, napkin rings, curtain rings and the like. I label all my bins with my Brother P-touch label maker. This way I do not have to open every bin to know what is inside.
In addition to bins, I use jars to store some of my art supplies. I love the fact that you can see through the glass to know what is inside.
Speaking of art supplies, I converted a small walk in closet to my craft/art supply closet. I removed the clothing racks and replaced them with shelving to house all my larger bins.
My pot and pans and food storage containers are stacked neatly in my pull out kitchen cupboard shelves.
Make sure that the home you designated for your things is large enough and can hold the items you want to keep. Otherwise, you might want to think of decluttering the excess.
My house does not always look this put together, but when it gets a little wonky, I can easily put it back fairly quickly because everything I have has a place to be.
