Hey there, everybody! Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and I have the perfect project for your front door! Yep! Today we are making a Pallet Heart Door Hanger!
You will need:
MDF Tabletop hearts
Wooded Pallet hearts
Valentine Scrapbook Paper – your choice (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby)
Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint – Pink Parfait
Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint – Snow White
Assorted Ribbons – I used what I had left over from other projects
Assorted Buttons – I used what I had left over from other projects
Decide what papers you would like to use. I chose mostly pink with a little green and white thrown in. This step was the hardest for me because there were so many variations that it was hard to pick! Ha!
Turn your pallet heart upside down and trace around the first part of your heart.
Continue with the other sections. Lay your pieces out to see how they look before gluing them in place. Make adjustments now because you won’t be able to change it once your paper is glued in place.
Brush on Mod Podge glue, one section at a time, and place your paper on top.
Apply a layer of the Mod Podge on top of your paper.
Once all your paper has been placed on the pallet heart, let dry completely. (I removed the hanger to place my paper and then poked through the hole with my pencil and reapplied the hanger after the glue was dry.)
While your glue is drying, let’s start on the conversation heart. First I peeled off the top of the MDF heart.
Next, I sanded all the surfaces and the edges with my 80-grit sanding sponge. Sorry, no picture of this.
This next step is totally up to you. I chose Apple Barrel acrylic paint in Pink Parfait for this project. I like Apple Barrel brand because the quality is great, and it is only around 50 cents for a 2-ounce bottle. I mixed in a little Apple Barrel Snow White to make my circles. Top: I like to take a fine black Sharpie marker to outline my circles. It gives it that little “extra.”
Attach the conversation heart to the top of the pallet heart using your hot glue gun and glue sticks. It should dry fairly quickly.
I then chose various ribbons and buttons from my stash of left overs (from other projects).
I am not a bow maker, by any means. My go to bow making is from my friend Brooke at Re-Fabbed. Super cute AND super easy! Win!
I like to hot glue cute little buttons to the center of my bows…just my little touch.
Here she is! I love how it turned out, Y’all! My back door is protected from the weather and the Mod Podge will protect it some. Just be aware when choosing where to hang this.
I hope that you enjoyed this project. It was so easy and really fun to make! If you decide to make this, will you send me a picture of it in the comments below? I would LOVE to see how yours turned out!
Happy crafting!
