Prepping the old Formica countertops for new "Carrara-looking" marble.

Do you have a bathroom in your home that needs a full remodel, but you just cannot afford the cost right now? Have I got a product for you!

I changed out our old Formica in the guest bathroom to Carrara marble countertops for under $200.

I was skeptical at first, but this countertop kit really lives up to the hype! I’m not gonna lie, the $200 price tag almost stopped me, but this kit is big enough to redo all three of my bathroom countertops! WHAT?! No WAY!

Before I purchased this, I watched a couple of YouTube videos to see how to apply it. This video was the one that sold me on this particular product.

The very first thing you need to do is to cover all surfaces not being painted (see the picture at the top of this article). Do not scrimp on this step because once you lay your epoxy down, it is there until Jesus comes back!😊 Plastic drop cloths are included in the kit. You will need to purchase the tape. I used Frog Tape™ and it worked really well!

Follow every step to the letter (written instructions come with the kit) and do not go off on your own thinking you have a better way (saying this to myself the entire time). As you can see in the pictures below, I painted two coats of the white countertop paint (letting it dry the required time between coats).

I then painted my marble “veins.” This step was so fun for me! If I didn’t like the vein I just painted, all I had to do was wipe it off and paint it again! Yay!

After waiting the four hours to let the veining dry, I applied the epoxy. This step was a little nerve-wracking to say the least. No turning back once you get started! I think I held my breath the entire time!

Now I need to paint the sink and the cabinets. One thing leads to another, but I promise I will put the results on my website.

I am SO happy with how this project turned out! Let me know if you are interested in changing your old Formica to Carrara marble countertops for under $200
