Essential Oil Diffuser

Today I am going to show you how to make an essential oil diffuser.

I love this little guy so much that I made one for my car, my office and for friends.

The wooden rings I bought came in a variety pack of 5 different sizes. I like changing them up, so they look different. I also used 8mm lava beads to hold the essential oil. They are very porous and come in a variety of colors. I chose a pinkish color, but I think next time I am going to try the Charm Blue. 😊

Here is a materials list for this project. I put the links to these items below.

Materials

  • 1 – 8mm lava bead
  • 2 – Wooden rings of different sizes
  • Wooden beads
  • Macramé cord [left over from this dreamcatcher project]
  • White braided lift shade cord [left over from this roman shade project]
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Ecru embroidery floss

  • Take a 12” piece of the braided lift shade cord and add a dab of hot glue to one end.
  • Pinch the glue into the cord to make a pointed end.
  • Thread the cord through the lava bead and the wooden bead(s).
Note: If it is still too difficult to pull the cord through the bead, cut a 6” piece of thin monofilament (fishing line) and fold it in half.
  • Push the folded end through the first bead.
  • Put your cord in the loop of the fishing line and pull the line and the cord through the bead. Slick huh?!
  • Once your cord is through the beads, thread it through the middle of one of your wooden rings.
  • Next thread your cord back through the beads. This is when that fishing line is a real life-saver!
  • Tie the ends of your lift shade cord together to form a hanging loop.
  • Then attach a second wooden ring to the first by wrapping a 6” piece of lift shade cord around the 2 hoops 3 times and tying it securely.
  • Cut the ends close to the knot you just made and put a drop of hot glue on the knot to secure it further.
  • Cut a 12” piece of macramé cord and fold it in half.
  • Take a 6” piece of lift shade cord and tie it around the center of the macramé cord.
  • Smooth the macramé cord in half.
  • Take a 10” piece of embroidery floss. I used the color ecru because it matched the color of my macramé cord.
  • Wrap the floss around the folded macramé cord about ½” from there you tied it with the lift shade cord.
  • Give yourself a little bit of a tail for tying.
  • Wrap around until you have just enough for tying.
  • Tie the 2 ends together tightly and secure with a drop of hot glue over the knot.
  • I then frayed out the macramé cord to look a little fuller. You can use a small tooth comb for this.
  • Place any essential oil on the lava bead and hang it up. It smells great for days, especially in the car!

I can’t wait to see your finished pieces! Please send me your pictures with your remarks in the comments below.

I also am excited to read your ideas on furnishing a beautiful home for the life you desire. I look forward to this journey with you! It has been a long time coming!

Until we meet up next time, have an AMAZING day!!!

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
