Our guest bathroom was the first room we decided to makeover when we moved in. Was kind of a “no brainer” really.
The wallpaper was coming loose and the glass shower doors made it difficult to get into and out of the bath tub, let alone get the dog in for his bath!. Check out these before and after pics.
I gotta say, this was a fun makeover!
Glass shower doors and pink wallpaper as well as a wallpaper border! It had all the markings of a 1990 sitcom, and not in a good way! This was my first project in this house (I had done many similar projects in our Ohio home).
Since we live three miles from the Gulf of Mexico, I already had a theme in mind…coastal/nautical. This is my favorite theme of all so I was super excited to get started! Once I get an idea going, I cannot sleep until I have every detail worked out in my mind. First I removed the glass shower doors and the mirror and donated them to Habitat for Humanity
Then I removed the wallpaper and the towel bars. The towel bars were the type that left huge gaping holes in the walls when removed…lovely!
After patching the drywall and sanding, I was finally ready to install the wainscoting and choose a paint color.
The wainscoting I decided would be “block trim.” Block trim is where all the corners are butted together instead of mitered. I really love the simplicity of this look. For more info on how to install block trim, check out my post here.
For the paint color, I decided on Naval by Sherwin-Williams. I love this dark navy blue color and always wanted to use it somewhere! Since I was only painting the upper part of the wall, I thought it would be the perfect shade. A color this dark would not work well all over due to the room only having minimal direct sunlight. The white trim and wainscoting is Bright White by Valspar.
Notice the gaping hole in the wall from our medicine cabinet. I really wanted to patch the hole or maybe change out the cabinet for a newer model, but alas I had to use the money I had reserved for this project and use it where it would give the most BANG for my buck!
Also, I’m hoping to someday replace the vanity and the faucet with a more up to date version
I know that it probably isn’t nautical, but I just had to have shiplap somewhere in the house! Lowe’s actually carries this! Who knew?!
I made the shower curtain out of navy and white twill fabric. This remodel took me a little over 3 weeks start to finish. I love the way it turned out and I am excited to start on another room! Maybe I should wait a bit before I spring another remodel on my poor hubby! The nautical flag watercolor is something I painted by looking up the flag letters in my last name.
The mirror is from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5X5XV0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
It came with an installation kit and I was able to install it myself without a problem.
Isn’t that bath rug adorable?! Walmart, y’all! Unfortunately, this one is no longer on their website, but I saw many really great options while I was looking. :0) The nautical swag was on our Christmas tree this past year. I thought it was cute so I left it up!
