Do you spend hours on Pinterest looking at photo after photo of what you want in your perfect _______ (insert room here) and wished that you lived in that dream?
Does it make you feel frustrated and unhappy with what you currently have?
Do you know that by updating just one thing in that room can help you feel better?
Home decor can feel overwhelming, but rest assured, there are home updates you can do now that cost little to nothing!
If you are like me, you spend a great deal of time analyzing the quirks in your home.
I have even drawn up ideas on graph paper and looked at pricing for each thing I would like to change only to realize that I need to win the lottery (I don’t even play so it’s a little difficult to “win”) or find a rich uncle somewhere.😉
It takes a lot of time to research all the details I would like to put into my dream space, but you know what?
It’s not really “wasted” time. I mean, first of all, I really enjoy the process and second, I find that there are usually a few things I CAN afford to put in my space. Yay!
Since we moved into our home in April of 2017, I have wanted to update the kitchen.
My absolute dream kitchen as of last year would cost approximately $45,000 to complete.
It might as well be $45 million because at this stage in my life, I do not want that price tag hanging over my head so close to retirement.
That being said, there are things I can do to update my kitchen that WILL make me happy..
This is what I am hoping to accomplish this year in my kitchen:
- Update the cabinet doors
- New cabinet hardware
- Put in sliding shelving on the bottom cabinets
- Updating the “L” shaped island with baseboard and maybe a board and batten design
- Paint the kitchen a new color – completely undecided on the color as yet
- New countertops – Someday – probably not this year
By doing these things myself, I hope to cut costs tremendously! I have not quite finished my drawing and pricing portion of this project yet, but I hope that the value I add to my home will far outweigh the cost.
I have made a preliminary mood board just to get my initial thoughts down on paper.
I find that by doing this, I can visualize my plan and add or subtract ideas from here.
You might find this way of doing things works great for you.
If not, find the avenue that does.
I love to create mood boards for various projects throughout my home.
I have mood boards for very elaborate ideas that I know will never come to fruition, but they are so fun for me to make.
If you have an area in your home that you wish to change, I would love to hear about it.
Even if you are a renter, there are many MANY things that you can do to update your space.
Making small changes throughout your home is a great way to boost your mood (especially in the winter-time) and get those creative juices flowing.
