It’s finally summer and the kids are out of school. Family vacations have begun! Even though all these things are happening, summer seems like a much slower-paced season than all the others. Maybe it is because the next two seasons coming up are super-charged busy with all the holiday hustle.
With that in mind, let’s talk beautiful, peaceful, relaxing summer décor for your home. This is the season to show quiet, understated décor. Let me show you what I mean.
First up your front door. This is the “first” first impression of your home. Make sure the entrance to your home is pressure washed of any dirt and bugs. A beautiful area rug at the front door along with a beautiful door hanger or wreath and maybe some potted plants (depending on the size around your front door). This is a great way to welcome family and friends to your home. Here are two examples of what I hang on my doors. First, this cute tulip wreath is so sweet. I think it looks fresh and inviting don’t you?
I also love the look of baskets…everywhere! So, why not on my front door also? Door baskets have come into their own in the last few years. I am starting to see them more and more.
I also like to wrap the cushions on my outdoor bench with inexpensive material or sheets. Here is what the bench looked like before.
And here is what it looks like now. Yay!!!
I wrapped and safety pinned this $20 shower curtain to my cushion. The fabric is waterproof, so it is much better than using a bed sheet. 😊
I really want to make some type of art piece to go on the wall behind this bench. It is such a large area and requires a bigger piece. This could get very expensive quickly. I have been pondering it for quite a while on how to make this beautiful without costing a fortune! So, stay tuned! Ha!
Next up, your entryway. This area is the “second” first impression your home will show to your guests. So, it’s kinda a big deal!
When you walk into my home on a summer day, I hope that relaxation pours all over you as you are greeted by Harold, our heron. Don’t worry, he won’t bite! 😉
Notice the beach hat and woven market totes! Totally a summer vibe here!
I’m hoping to have a little bench in the spot…someday (sigh).
The next thing you will want to do to get that summer vibe is to lighten up your fabrics. Pillows, blanket throws, and area rugs in lighter fabrics give off a clean summer feeling. I have off-white cotton twill slipcovers on my sofa and loveseat in the living room. You might think that this color would not be a great choice with kids and pets, but these babies go in the washer and dryer and comes out looking amazing! I have even spilled red wine on the sofa once! 😳
A few years back, I made this Beach House pillow cover. It has been washed many MANY times and still looks great! It also goes well with the easy-going, summer feeling I am trying to achieve.
Speaking of that beach vibe, you might want to change out your regular family photos with photos taken while on vacation. Kids romping on the beach or that time you visited the straw market on the islands. Use pictures that create great memories of time you were relaxed and completely happy.
Decorate with shells and beach glass you found while on vacation, or buy them online, shhh I won’t tell. 🤫 Ha!
Speaking of using beach-inspired elements, you might want to re-style the vignettes around your home. I like to use light-hearted, playful items, like this jar of marbles, to decorate my surfaces. Kinda takes me back to childhood times.
Summer décor is the perfect time to add texture to your home. Sand, rope, and wicker speak summer to me more than anything else! This cute starfish candle holder was so easy to make and is perfect for summertime decorating!
This coastal watercolor wall art is the showpiece of my living room! It is made from a shower curtain and stretched over a frame that I built myself! Stunning piece for $20!
Speaking of art, looks at these great framed shells I made for next to nothing! Sorry about the wonky photography. ☹
Potted summer annuals make quite a beautiful and unexpected statement. I love to use my pretty flowerpots wherever I can! Doesn’t this Mexican heather look great in my hobnail planter?
Speaking of pretty containers, this beautiful wooden bowl looks so good with seasonal citrus. These colors are great with any décor-style! 😊
Lastly, summer is the perfect time to update you bedding! Cool linens and light and airy fabrics help sleeping during the warm summer nights, not to mention they make your home beautiful also! 😉
I hope you enjoyed reading How to Add a Relaxing Summertime Vibe to Your Home. I really had fun writing it. Summer is my favorite time of the year (well…after Christmas). Ha!
