Hi, everybody! Today I am making a paper heart garland for the tops of my windows. I first saw this idea on Pinterest. LiaMiaCasa posted this gorgeous picture from her Etsy store. I love the papers she chose and the way she actually sewed it together with a sewing machine.
We are going to make something similar to this, but we are using different types of papers and we are using hot glue instead of a sewing machine. Ready? Here we go!
Materials Needed:
Scrapbook paper of your choice
Book pages or sheet music paper
Brown wrapping paper
Twine
Tools Needed:
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
I used three different types of paper for my heart garland. I also used three different sizes of hearts for contrast. First, I cut out one-inch, two-inch and three-inch hearts from cardstock. These will be my patterns to use over and over.
One thing I like to do is to collect old books from Goodwill to use in my projects. I also like old hymnal pages. For this project I am using floral scrapbook paper, old book pages and brown wrapping paper I bought for 90% off after season at Hobby Lobby.
I cut 15 hearts out of each type of paper (15 small floral hearts, 15 medium book page hearts and 15 large brown paper hearts.
Since we are not using a sewing machine to attach our hearts together, you will need to fold each heart in half making sure to line up the valley in the middle of the heart with the point at the bottom of the heart. You will attach each heart at the crease with hot glue.
On the largest heart, run a bead, or a line, of hot glue down the crease you folded in the center of the heart.
Fold the medium-size heart in half and place on the bead of hot glue.
Continue the same with the smaller heart, attaching it to the medium-size heart.
Here it is all glued together. I love how these look together! Yay!
Measure out how much twine you want to use and position your hearts equally across.
Flip each heart over and run a bead of glue down the back to attach the twine.
Hang your beautiful new paper heart garland in your home! Enjoy!
I cannot wait to see how yours turned out! Please post a picture of your finished garland in the comments below. Yay!
