kitchen fixes for little $$$

kitchen fixes for little $$$

Today I would like to talk about the heart of your home, the kitchen.

I had always longed for the scenes from those Hallmark Christmas movies to happen in my kitchen.

Everyone young and old baking cookies, assembling gingerbread houses and stringing popcorn for the Christmas tree.

That would be… Aaahhh!!!

So, how can I get my kitchen to look that beautiful and inviting without a lot of $$$?

I have done a little bit of homework on the subject and I have found some really interesting DIY budget-friendly ways that would make Hallmark envious! Ready?!

Let’s do this!

Where have you been all my life?

There are so many options to choose from.

Wood planks to tiles. These are a beautiful way to update any mid-size kitchen most for under $200!

I was amazed by the large selection I found on Amazon.com and Homedepot.com.

Add “feet” to Your Cabinets

Next, I would love to put “feet” on my kitchen base cupboards. Just that little added touch can take your kitchen from ordinary to extraordinary!

It is a stunning addition when painted to match the cabinets.

Paint Kitchen Cabinets

Painting the kitchen cabinets is another upgrade you can do for little money.

Just make sure that it is the right paint for the job.

For instance, my cupboards are Formica, so I need a paint specifically for that surface as well as a paint for high traffic areas because your kitchen is surely a high traffic area.

They have a paint for most everything anymore!

Make Countertop Looks Like Marble

While researching ideas for this article, I came across this amazing product that will take your Formica countertops and make them look like granite!

Check out my article on it here.

The product I used is called Giani countertop acrylic paint kit.

I love it! It is low VOC and low odor so you won’t choke to death using it.

It is also a water-based product so clean up is very easy.

It covers “16 linear feet of standard 24-inch-wide countertops” and comes in 5 colors.

Cost for this kit it just under $80.

Way less than the cost of new countertops!

Peel and Stick Backsplash

Now, how about that backsplash?

These peel and stick beauties are a miracle in a box!

I dare anyone to touch these and not believe that they are real porcelain subway tiles!

You can get them with white, gray or black grout lines (which are much easier to clean than real grout by the way).

These are a win-win!

Upgrade Faucet

How about that kitchen faucet?

It probably gets more of a workout than anything in your home.

Why not make it pretty as well as functional?

This little beauty does the trick and you can install it yourself with little to no trouble!  Trust me, I know.  For $40 it’s a great upgrade!

Brushed Nickel Vinyl Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Do you really want stainless appliances, but can’t afford the price?

This product is a brushed nickel vinyl peel and stick wallpaper. GENIUS!

I am planning to try it on my “used to be white” dishwasher.

It’s fully removable without leaving a residue and covers 15.8” x 78.8”.

Cabinet Hardware

Last, but definitely not least, is your kitchen cabinet hardware.

This is like jewelry for your kitchen.

There are so many styles in various price ranges.

You can really get into the expensive end of the pool if you are not careful.

These are my favorite. They are modern without looking cold.
