Laundry Room Makeover

When we first moved into this home back in 2015, the laundry room was basic to say the least. We were thrilled that it was inside the house and not in the garage like many of the homes here in Florida. The walls were painted a flat, chalky white that would rub off on your clothing if you weren’t careful.

From this…

To this…

The sink cabinet is a small bathroom vanity that we hope to replace someday, but for now it is functional.

Now, the elephant in the room…yes there is a toilet in the laundry room. Since this room is right off the garage, it makes sense to have a bathroom close so as not to track dirt into the house – or so I’ve been told.

I have personally never used it, but we have guests that have when the other guest bathroom was occupied. I had originally wanted to remove it, but was told that homes with 2 ½ bathrooms sell better than homes with only 2 bathrooms. 😉

I had half a gallon of paint left over from our master bathroom ceiling makeover (more on that later) in Valspar’s Gull from Lowe’s. It was just enough to finish this little laundry room and the cost was $0.00!

I always buy my interior paints in a satin finish.  I have found that it scrubs up well when dirty and does not have a glossiness to it that might show imperfections in your walls.  This color lightened up quite a bit after it dried and is just a soft whisper of a grey now. 😊

I built these shelves out of oak stair treads and metal brackets. I love how they look in here!

We use them to keep our extra rugs and picnic tote that holds all of Karl’s beach items.

We decided to finish off this little window with wood trim to match the windows in the breakfast nook. Learn how I changed the window trim. I absolutely love the way this trim looks once it’s all painted up! I hope to get the rest of the house windows done soon.

Updating your home is always possible when you do your homework (see what I did there?! Home…work?) I’m such a nerd! Ha!

If you take your time, do the research and follow your budget, you can create a beautiful home for the life you desire. I look forward to this journey with you! It has been a long time coming!

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
