make a pom-pom heart pillow

There is nothing I love more than a fluffy, cozy pillow to curl up with in the winter evenings.

A pillow with a cover that can also be thrown in the washer when hot cocoa gets spilled on it.  😉

I love how these pillows turned out! Let me show you how to make a pom-pom heart pillow cover for your home decor this Valentine’s Day!

A picture containing both the snowflake and the heart pompom pillows along with my store bought snowman pillow on my white slipcovered sofa.

This sweet Valentine pillow couples well with the Snowflake pillow cover I made a few years back.

I used the same cotton canvas store-bought pillow cover with both pillows.

I also used pom-poms, but this time they are soft pink and made from yarn (not as fluffy as the off-white snowflake pom-poms).

If you would like to watch the video click here.

Here is what you will need to make this exact pillow:

  • 1 Canvas Pillow Cover I used one, but I like this one also
  • 1 Pillow insert – this one is my favorite
  • 40 Pom-poms – I used this one only in pink,– I like these pom-poms also from Amazon
  • Glue sticks
  • Paper large enough to make a heart pattern

Tools you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • Pencil
  • Glue Gun – I have this one

Unfortunately, at the time I made this pillow cover, the materials were NOT on sale. ☹  I wound up paying $12.00 for the canvas pillow cover and $12.00/yard for the pom-poms (I needed 2 ½ yards).  So, yeah…$42.00. 😖

To start with, I cut a heart shape out of my large piece of paper.  You can use newspaper or tape smaller pieces of paper together for this.

Using a pencil, lightly trace around the paper heart onto the canvas.  Place pom-poms around the shape to see how many you will need.  I used 40 for this project.  I can tell already that this is going to be a great addition to my sofa!  Ha!

Start by squeezing a line of hot glue onto your pencil line.  I worked in small sections so the glue wouldn’t dry before I was able to get the pom-poms in place.

And here she is!  Isn’t she beautiful?!

Even though I wound up spending more than I wanted for this project, I would not change a thing about it.  I totally love it and I know that I will use it for many years to come!

Sometimes that is the way things go…a little unplanned, but still okay.

If you like this project and maybe are planning to make it, I would LOVE to hear from you!  We all deserve to live in a home that we love and are comfortable living in.  My hope is that I can help you get there!

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
