Make Pedestal Dishes for Home Decor and Fancy Feasts

I have always loved fancy dishware. My momma had a few pieces of pink depression glass that are now in my possession and I bring them out whenever possible when we have quests.  She also had a crystal footed candy dish with a matching lid.  I remember that candy dish always made an appearance at Christmas.  Mom would fill it with her homemade chocolates and fudge. Unfortunately, I have no idea what happened to that sweet little dish when Mom passed.

Today I would like to show you my version of the fancy dish on a budget.

The glass (and one metal) pieces you see below are from the thrift store not too far from my house.  I chose pieces that I thought would compliment each other.

All you need other than these pieces is the glue. I used E6000 for most of it, but I bought Gorilla Glue in a clear formula for the metal to glass application.  It worked PERFECTLY! Win!

Gorilla Glue and E6000 for this project

Trust me, the hardest part of this whole project is deciding which top (bowl, plate) goes best with each pedestal!  Truth!

These are a few of my choices.

First up…the metal base (candlestick) from Goodwill and the beautiful plate with flowers engraved on it from the DollarTree. So elegant, it only looks expensive.

Total cost: $2.33

Next up, this modern version of the pedestal dish.  It is a plain clear glass bowl turned upside down glued to a plain clear glass dinner plate both from the DollarTree.  Wouldn’t it look great with a set of twinkle lights in the base?!  I am no good with the minimalist style.  I always want to add things…like twinkle lights!  Ha!

Total cost $2.50.

This next little dish would look amazing with homemade chocolates don’t you think?  Actually, everything in the entire world would look better with chocolate!  Ha!  Both pieces came from Goodwill. I love the bright blue color on the candlestick base.  This would also look great for the Fourth of July.

Total Cost: $2.36

And for the last dish, I glued a small cut crystal bowl from Goodwill to a small clear glass candlestick from the DollarTree.

Total Cost:  $2.53

There are so many variations to this project.  Chose one that suits your decorating style.  These also make great gifts! I like to add these little beauties to my tablescapes for dinner parties.

However you decide to use these gorgeous pedestal dishes, I guarantee you will have fun making them!

I hope you enjoyed this project. Sometimes, it is so simple to make your home beautiful on a budget!  I would love to see how you made your pedestal dish and where you plan on using it! Please post a picture of your piece in the comments below.  Until then, happy decorating!

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
