Master Bedroom Makeover

One of the reasons I loved this home so much was the size of the master bedroom…well that and the amazing natural light from the 3 (yes 3) windows! It was so bright and airy and full of…HAPPY!

From this…

To this…

Sorry for the quality of the photos. I was just starting out in the blogging world and was (still am) really “green” when it comes to photography. Isn’t the natural light just GORGEOUS?!

The lace curtains were left by the previous owners. I plan to make new Roman shades. More on that later.

First up was to choose a paint color. I know most designers paint white or off-white walls throughout the house. I like a “moody” bedroom. Sounds mysterious and sensual I know, but it’s mostly because of my migraines (and of course my mysterious, sensual side) ;0)

I chose Blue Rhapsody from Valspar for my wall color and Bright White also from Valspar for the trim.

I plan on trimming out the windows with wood later. I’m not much of a fan of the no trim marble sill windows that are prevalent in Florida homes (maybe it’s my mid-west roots).

Our home came with a safety system and a whole house radio and intercom…OMG WAY too fun!!! Of course, it only gets 2 radio stations, so if we ever want to listen to rap or country, we’re GOLDEN!!! I’m more of a James Taylor/Paper Kites kinda girl. :0)

Again…sorry for the quality of the photography. I like to think of those flashes of light are angels blessing my hard work! (insert eyeroll here)

The art work is from Art.com. They have just about any picture you could ever want at really great prices!

The wall sconces, duvet and shams are from Pottery Barn (all birthday gifts – over the span of 2 years from Hubby).

The bed is from Banner Mattress in Ohio and the dresser is from Sauder Furniture (also from Ohio).

The bed side chests are RAST chests from Ikea…notice one is painted and one is not.

This room is still a work in progress. I’m always changing things here and there throughout my house as the inspiration strikes, so, I guess I’m never really “done.” Isn’t that what makes it fun?

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
