Summer Living Room Refresh Ideas

Are you looking for some summer refresh ideas for your living room? Adding color is an easy and inexpensive way to refresh any room for the new season.

Updating any room in your home with a pop of color is a quick way to transform your space. It always amazes me how something as easy as changing the colors of your throw pillows and maybe a few tabletop items can create such a huge impact!

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I like to add different pops of color to our home every season. The best part of changing out your colors for impact is that it doesn’t cost a lot, nor does it involve a lot of shopping. Yay! All I do is I choose a color that reminds me of the season (i.e., pastels for spring, greens for summer, orange/reds for fall and blues for winter).

First, I will look around my home or “shop” my home if you will. I will then buy a few pillow covers or inexpensive accessories in the color I have chosen for that particular season to fill in the rest of the spaces. I don’t usually have to buy much because I have collected totes full of accessories for each season.

The Living Room Refresh and Color for Summer

The color I chose for this summer is nautical navy and aqua. I have a very large art piece on my living room wall. I have no place to store it if I choose a color that clashes, so I usually try to find colors that work well with it. Luckily, it goes with all the coastal/nautical colors which is right up my alley!  Pay no attention to the winter arrangement sitting on my dining room table. 🤦‍♀️

The first step in refreshing any room in your home for the season is to declutter. Remove everything that isn’t permanent and declutter first. Throw away anything that is broken, faded or just does not serve a purpose any longer. Next, “shop” your home for items that fit in your new color palette and have fun making over your living room! Yay!

I pulled my sunflower arrangement out of storage as part of my summer décor. I also like to use my patriotic pieces for July, so they are usually part of my summer décor.

After carefully looking around the rooms of my home, I came up with a few fun accessories that fit my new color palette. I also added one or two new items that I found while shopping with the girlfriends (like this sweet umbrella – you can buy a similar one using the link below).

Now, you won’t have to change out everything in your living room. I left the

coastal candle holder that I made last year. It is one of my favorite things! 😁

It is incredible how adding a little color can transform a room. I love my living room now with all the navy and aqua accents! Below are links to some of the items in my living room. I hope you love them as much as I do! Yay!

Hi, I’m Danielle!

I am the designer, writer and diy’er behind this blog. I enjoy decorating my home for practically nothing by doing most of the work myself, finding new and imaginative ways to make it beautiful and by watching for killer sales. I find humor almost anywhere and can laugh at myself through it all. I have learned that most projects don’t go exactly as intended, but can be more beautiful than the original plan.
